Defend the Nation

Although people who want unlimited access to guns often think of themselves as heroically defending the country against invaders (and sometimes frighteningly suggesting they will overturn an American government they don't like), our Constitution is clear that it is the Federal Government's responsibility to defend the nation both here (if attacked) and abroad.
That is why it is a threat to American values to learn that Blackwater and other military contractors are actually conducting raids and fighting in Afghanistan. US law prohibits mercenaries, and that is exactly what they are. If the US does not want to pay the human cost to fight wars then we should not engage in them.
